ENS DAO co‑founder Nick Johnson cast a dissenting vote in an on‑chain executable ballot, causing the proposal to extend the ENS Security Council’s term by two years to be rejected with about 82% opposition. Johnson holds roughly 3.26 million ENS tokens, accounting for about 80% of the tokens voted in this poll. He said his opposition stems from the possibility that current Security Council members could use veto power to block proposals they personally disagree with, and he supports a new proposal to restructure the Security Council. The incident sparked community debate over the concentration of governance power and voting rights within ENS, with some members even suggesting that ENS DAO is facing a risk of governance failure. ENS = governance token, for governance over the DAO treasury => tokenholders decide what happens with the DAO treasury Yes, ENS is a governance token, but tokenholders are still entitled to a governance vote on what happens with the treasury, which could lead to revenue being distributed or used for buybacks... so the proposal entitled tokenholders to decide what happens with the revenue. What am I missing here?

@_esk_kse_ That proposal entitled *the DAO* to receive revenue from ENS registrations. Not *tokenholders*.

Absolutely to nobody's surprise Nick used 50% of the voting supply to vote down the onchain proposal to renew the Security council despite having abstained the offchain vote Can't let that sweet ~$500m go to anybody else than him and his company! And with that ENS DAO is dead https://t.co/FOYNblG953

I can't believe ENS, of all things, has turned into another heist and grift. Is nothing sacred? The reasons given--DAOs are dysfunctional, etc.--are all true in general but pretty much irrelevant in this case as DAO simply controls treasury and has funded Labs with whatever it wants. It's just purely a money grab and after this, there will be zero accountability of the team to anyone as that is how lawyers set up these ridiculous "foundations". As I always warned, the "constitutions" sound good but are unenforceable as they don't give any tokenholders or anyone else any right to sue if they are arguably violated. The crypto "space" or "industry" is completely lost and it's really so depressing.

Wu said he learned that ENS DAO on-chain governance shows that the execution proposal to renew the Security Council for two years is currently being blocked by a large number of opposing votes. ENS founder Nick Johnson cast about 3.26 million votes against, accounting for the vast majority of the current opposition, while the supporting votes are about 538,000. Previously, the proposal had passed the Snapshot community vote, but the on-chain execution proposal did not receive support. ENS community member Lefteris Karapetsas later publicly criticized Nick Johnson for using roughly half of the voting power to veto the proposal, stating that this move means “ENS DAO is dead.” https://t.co/XnJT2j5bdY
