    With this magnitude and trading volume, spot market makers don't earn much; they mainly profit from a portion of the rally (after deducting pumping costs and the ambush or take‑profit on the rally) and from bottom‑fishing during the subsequent sideways consolidation. However, not all sideways movement is bottom‑fishing; some is selling and some is cutting losses after a soft pullback. At this point, market makers may see their USDT balance shrink while their coin holdings increase, so they manually dump the price to lock tokens and protect profit. But contracts are still available, allowing both long and short positions to be taken.
