    In 2025, Sky Protocol programmatically executed $96.8M in SKY buybacks and distributed 324M SKY directly to stakers. A great milestone, but buybacks are only one part of the equation of providing value to SKY holders. As per @RuneKek ( @SkyEcosystem Co-founder & Director of Sky Frontier Foundation), the primary mechanism designed to deliver value to SKY holders is staking rewards. Currently, staking rewards are distributed through the buying of SKY, which means holders may benefit from both effects simultaneously. 60.3% of circulating SKY supply was staked as of Q4 2025, up from 57.7% in Q3, driven by an estimated ~16% APY derived from protocol profits. As Rune notes, the long-term focus is likely to remain on staking rewards, which may eventually transition to USDS-denominated distributions.
